Military to Law Enforcement Options

Military Members that are looking to transition into Law Enforcement can take advantage of their prior training and experience. Military applicants are eligible for Education Benefits through the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA Form 22-1999). Military applicants can receive compensation from the VA in addition to his/her salary during the time the military applicant spends in the Correction and/or Deputy Academies, while in the field training officer program and through their probationary period (typically one year from hire date). The Williamson County Sheriff's Office can assist eligible military members with obtaining these benefits.

Texas Administration Code Title 37 Rule 219.2 allows military applicants to be eligible to take the state licensing examination without enrolling in a Law Enforcement academy if they meet certain criteria.
